Last summer I saw an amazing trailer for a film called Never Let Me Go. Being inspired by the trailer I read Kazuo Ishiguro’s book of the same title. Never Let Me Go is a beautiful novel about an alternative past where an amazing scientific discovery finds the cure for all diseases, ailments, and longevity to the human body. People are chosen from birth to solely live only to donate their organs and die an early death. The story was beautiful, with great characters, and a realistic atmosphere. I had immensly high expectations after finishing the book and all those expectations were met when I saw the film today.
Never Let Me Go is simply beautiful. The director Mark Romanek has successfully taken the atmosphere from the book and has perfectly portrayed it in his visuals. All the sets, costumes, and characters are how they are in the book with wonderful scenery and great cinematography from Adam Kimmel. The twists and turns of the plot are also wonderfully done. For me there were times that it almost played out like a horror movie. There are these intense scenes with dialogue that other than making me sad also terrified me at some points. The whole mystery of who these people really are gave off a very real terrifying feeling. The movie was so much more than just a drama. There were many different genre’s present throughout the film. Drama, comedy, sci-fi, and the most surprising horror. There is a climactic scene where the character finally confront there fears and face the truth. Those last twenty-minutes of the film were horrifying, saddening, and cinematically amazing.

The cast was great. Incredible performances by Carey Mulligan, Andrew Garfield and Keira Knightley. They all played there characters extremely well. What I loved about the performances was that they were the characters from the book brought to life. The script was greatly adapted from the book hardly changing anything only taking things out (which of course is understandable). The film also had a very effective majestic score by Rachel Portman.
This movie really touched my heart. It took everything that I loved about the book and brought it to life before my eyes. Watching that movie is a beautiful but touching experience that I will never forget. I highly recommend it to everyone.
