Movie Review: “Five Minutes of Heaven”

About a week ago I saw a trailer for Five Minutes of Heaven a few days later I rented the movie at Blockbusters and saw it last Saturday. I haven’t been able to stop thinking about this film. Watching it was such a powerful and amazing experience I decided that I had to write a review on it.

Five Minutes of Heaven is about Alistair (Liam Neeson) and Joe (James Nesbit) two men who are brought back together after a horrendous incident that happened nearly 30 years earlier. A young Alistair kills Joe’s brother in front of him. The film takes place before and after their meeting.

This is an amazing movie. The director ,Oliver Hirschbiegel, creates such an intense atmosphere throughout the whole picture that it makes you guess what is going to happen next. Each shot is beautifully composed in a way that really made me feel what was happening in the scene. Each plot twist really shook me and that tense feeling I got only increased as the movie went on.

The acting is incredible. Liam Neeson of course is great in it. There is a one-shot sequence where he delivers one of the most chilling monologues I have seen him perform as an actor. The whole sequence I had my jaw dropped watching him. One of the best parts about it is that there is very little action. The entire sequence he is sitting on a chair but his words and facial expression told me everything I needed to know about his character.

What made the movie amazing for me was James Nesbit. He was nothing short of brilliant. His performance is indescribable on so many levels. His character’s desperation and anger show so well that everytime he is on screen I immediately felt all his feelings. He also delivered one of the most chilling dialogue sequences I have ever seen.

This film is incredible and I can not highly recommend it enough. I urge people to rent and watch it. I have to say that it has become one of my favorite films of all time.
