The Movie Doctor

Movie Review: “127 Hours”

127 Hours is a movie that I have been waiting to watch for a long time. Sadly, since I live in Las Vegas this film ,which was suppose to come at the beginning of this month, took a while to get here. As soon as I found out that it finally came out here I immediately made plans to go see it. Those plans were fulfilled today and all I can say is that I am amazed.

This film is the true story about Aron Ralston a very vivacious rock climber who due to some unfortunate events gets his hand stuck in between a rock and a canyon. He is unable to move and since he told no one where he was going it is up to him to escape. It is a film about his survival.

Danny Boyle’s very unique, fast-paced, visual-style fits perfectly with this story. It really fits the personality of Aron Ralston who was portrayed through-out the film as a very fast-paced, energetic kind of guy. Boyle creates some amazing sequences that really make you feel for the character. He also is able to create some very nerve-raking and intense scenes that I won’t be forgetting for a while. Anthony Mantle and Enrique Chediak’s cinematography are wonderful. They both really take advantage of the beautiful mountain scenery where the film takes place.

James Franco is breathtaking as Aron Ralston he is able to hold the audience through out the whole movie. Most of the film Franco is the only one on screen and he blew me away with his performance. Ralston has a video camera in which he records himself talking about the situation Franco acts these parts beautifully and really made me feel the character’s anxiousness. It was definetly one of my favorite performances of the year and certainly his best one.

127 Hours is a movie that I really can’t stop thinking about and every second I think about it I love it even more. It has such beautiful visuals, acting, and music that it is definetly not only one of the best movies of the year but I think it’s Danny Boyle’s best film as well. There are two sequences in particular that are amazing but since I do not want to spoil anything for those who haven’t seen it I won’t talk about them.

All I can say is go see it. It is such an amazing experience watching the film in theaters. Those are the types of movies Danny Boyle makes fast-paced roller coaster rides and this has to be his best one yet. I highly recommend it.
